Course Descriptions
GBM-101 Global Business Environment
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the global business environment, blending cross- disciplinary topics from sociology, politics and economics. Students will be directed to explore multiple perspectives and scenarios to prepare them for the highly globalized business operations of today.
GBM-102 International Business Planning
This course presents a practical-focused introduction to various aspects of international business. Students will be led to explore why and how the world’s cultures, countries and regions differ and what are the international issues related to ethics, corporate social responsibility, and sustainability. It is also their focus to examine the structures and strategies of international business.
GBM-103 International Finance
This course presents a clear understanding of the real markets of international finance and proposes ways to bring the old and new players together in this changing world of global finance. Students will acquire knowledge on various aspects of international finance, including transactions of foreign exchange and money markets, equity markets, bond markets, derivative markets and securitization markets.
GBM-104 Global Marketing
This course presents the well-rounded perspectives of international marketing and helps students see the cultural and environmental uniqueness of nations and regions as formation of global marketplace. Students will also acquire understanding on assessing global marketing opportunities and developing international marketing strategies.
GBM-105 International Human Resource Management
This course presents the contemporary debates and emerging issues in the field of international human resource development. Apart from the ways of thinking about IHRM theory and practice, students will observe how multinational companies manage their workforce around the world. It is also the focus of the course to study both traditional and newer approaches to IHRM policies and practices.
GBM-106 Global Accounting
This course provides an overview of the broadly defined area of international accounting, with focuses on the accounting issues related to international business activities and foreign operations. Students will also acquire substantially updated knowledge on the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
GBM-201 Cross-Cultural Management
This course offers a selective but brard view of classic and contemporary thinking on cultural management. Students are encouraged to apply theories and ideas to practice, and to relate them to their own experience, through various examples and cases from the business world as well as through a range of practical activities.
GBM-202 International Trade
This course provides a balanced approach to theory and policy applications in international trade. Students will get a broad view of the theory foundations in international trade and will be conducted to apply the theory into practice, supported by the established regulations and policies in the field.
GBM-203 Global Project Management
This course introduces how to adapt organizations and their projects to thrive in business environments which require distributed skills, around-the-clock operations and virtual team environments. Students will be directed to approach the best practices on cross-cultural team management and global communication, and to acquire understanding on organizational changes and project structures, as well as alternatives for the implementation of the new practices and methods.
GBM-204 Global Logistics and Supply Chain Management
This course offers a balance and integrated presentation of global logistics and supply chain management concepts, practices, technologies, and applications. Students will examine how information, materials, products and services flow across the public and private sectors and around the world, and obtain real-world insights on supply chain relationships, transport security, inventory management, and supply chain designs.
GBM-205 International Business Law
This course provides students with a deep understanding of international business laws and regulations on how they impact Canadian business and economy. It covers a range of topics including both public and private international law, risk management strategies, trade agreements, and negotiating contracts.
GBM-206 Global Entrepreneurship
This course discusses the opportunities and challenges facing internationalizing entrepreneurial ventures. Students will get a dedicated overview of the subject from different perspectives of social, cross-cultural and comparative entrepreneurship. With case studies on how real international companies handle modern issues, the course prepares students for future entrepreneurial ventures in global context.
